What is Homeopathy?

Homeopathy is a natural form of medicine that works based on the idea that “like cures like.” This means that a substance that causes symptoms in a healthy person can be used to treat those same symptoms in someone who is sick. It was developed by a German Practitioner, Samuel Hahnemann, in 1796.

The word "Homeopathy" comes from two Greek words: “Homeo” meaning similar and “Pathos” meaning suffering. So, it's the idea of treating suffering with similar substances.

How does it work?

Homeopathic medicines are made using a special process called dynamization or potentization. This process helps unlock the healing powers of natural substances, which may not be active in their raw form. These medicines are diluted and shaken in specific ways to make them stronger and more effective.

Methods of Preparation

  • Trituration: Used for substances that can’t dissolve easily.
  • Succussion: Used for substances that dissolve in water or alcohol.

Homeopathy uses tiny doses of these medicines to help your body heal itself. Instead of just treating the disease directly, homeopathy focuses on stimulating the body’s natural healing ability (its vital force).

Mind and Body Connection

Homeopathy recognizes that the mind and body are closely connected. Many illnesses have a mental or emotional cause, which can affect the body. And sometimes, a physical illness can also lead to emotional distress. According to Hahnemann, symptoms are the body’s way of reflecting what’s happening inside — they show what’s going on with the internal health of a person.

Consultation & Services

What Happens During a Homeopathic Visit?

When you first visit a homeopath, the appointment usually lasts about 1 to 1.5 hours. It’s mostly a talking session. As a homeopath, I take a complete case history, including your physical symptoms as well as your mental and emotional well-being. I carefully analyze all aspects of your condition to understand the totality of your symptoms. Based on this thorough evaluation, I then select and prescribe the most appropriate remedy for you.

What Will the Homeopath Ask About?

The homeopath will ask you a lot of questions to understand you better. They look at you as a whole person, not just your illness. Here's what they'll want to know:

  • Your Symptoms: How do you feel? When did you first notice your symptoms? Were they sudden or slow? What makes them better or worse?
  • Your Emotions: How are you feeling emotionally? Do you have any fears, worries, or stress? Are there any life events that have affected you a lot?
  • Your Lifestyle and Personality: They’ll ask about your work, relationships, and hobbies. They may also ask about your dreams, hopes, and worries.
  • Physical Health: Food preferences, reaction to weather, sleeping habits, etc.
  • Family Health History: Check for hereditary health issues.

Treatment & Process

How Long Does Treatment Take?
For long-term issues (like ongoing health problems), homeopathy might take a little longer to work, sometimes up to a year or more. But for short-term issues, it could take less time.

Follow-ups: After your first visit, the homeopath will ask you to come back in about 4 weeks to check your progress. If things are improving, follow-up visits might happen every 3 to 6 months.

Before Your First Visit

Before you come in, you’ll need to sign an agreement that explains everything clearly, including any legal details required by law. It’s simple to read and helps you understand what to expect.

  • The homeopath you’re seeing is not a licensed physician.
  • Homeopaths in California provide their services under specific legal guidelines (Business and Professional Code sections 2053.5 and 2053.6), but they are not licensed by the state as medical Practitioners.
